On December 23,
2014 Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee inaugurated ‘Jai
Hind Jal Prakalpa’ at Dhapa. The Project has been named after the war cry of
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army.
The Plant with 30
million gallon capacity will meet the demand of arsenic-free, treated, filtered
drinking water for a large number of people living in the areas surrounding EM
Bypass including Mathpukur, Kasba, Kalikapur, Mukundapur, Anandapur, Patuli and
adjoining localities.
KMC constructed an intake
jetty at Bagbazar 'Mayer Ghat' for lifting raw water from Hooghly River and
then it is transmitted to the Water Treatment Plant at Dhapa for final
treatment as well as filtration. The water is then sent to the consumers via
Head Works and Booster Pumping Stations. The new Plant at Dhapa, its 140 km
distribution network, a Booster Pumping Station, 3 Head Works, 11 Overhead
Reservoirs and other associated infrastructure have been built at an
approximate cost of INR 400 crore.
